Kindergarten class of 2022

Graduation

CHARACTER FIRST
by Mariya Li and Rebecca Hadden (Teachers at Level 3)

What do you think is the most important thing for a child to learn as a preschooler? Should they know how to read a book, write their name or name every planet in the solar system? We believe that these are achievable goals for our students but we would be silly to set our goals so low when the potential is so much greater. In our classroom, we care deeply about academics and desire to see each child learn at their own pace. At the same time, we strive to see our students grow to be leaders in adulthood. With this in mind, we have chosen 11 character qualities to build our classroom values upon: Compassion, Teamwork, Self-control, Honesty, Orderliness, Attentiveness, Individuality, Patience, Confidence, Humility, and Forgiveness. These qualities are not learned in a week or a month. It is possible to memorize the words and definitions but it takes time for children to understand and put them into practice. We have learned that the best way to teach these qualities is to set an example by first putting them into practice ourselves. This year, we have set our aim to teach these qualities in the way we love and lead our students each day. As the year closes, it is our hope and challenge to our students to continue learning and growing into men and women of great character wherever they find themselves in life. Thank you to all who have entrusted these young people to our care!
